2022 Resolutions

I guess it’s that time again, time to make resolutions for 2022 on … January 17th.

1- Cross Country Bike Adventure

Well, I got the car, I’m going to use it. With international travel messed up thanks to the Canadian government and with rents up 20-30% in the last year, I figure now is a pretty good time to be doing a cross Canada road trip. I figure not renting for 5 months in BC saves me around 8 000$ which is a lot of money I can put towards this trip instead. That covers the fuel for driving plus a motel stay every 5 days. If I don’t do this now I don’t think I ever would. That means it’s smart! That’s how life works.

Sub-Step 1: Plan a route. - 30% done

Been working on that for a bit now, mapping out rides on Strava to do in Canada and finding touristy things to do/eat along the way. Have any suggestions? Email me: poxpower@gmail.com

Sub-Step 2: Convert Car to Car Camping - 75%

I will document this in its own post!

Sub-Step 3: Contact people to ride with. - 5%

If you’re reading and want to ride, contact me!
I will see if I can find anyone who wants to do any rides or meetups with me, outside of the people I already know back in Quebec.

Sub-Step 4: Test the Car Camping idea - 0%

Aiming for late March or April to figure out if sleeping in a car 6 days a week is sustainable. If not, my alternative plan is to just move to mainland BC and do mini-trips in BC/Alberta only.

Sub-Step 5: Document this better - 0%

I might need to invest in new camera gear because my phone sucks. Maybe it’s worth making videos? At the very least I will keep this blog updated with my progress, which hopefully I can do from the road.

2- Infernal Fitness Ladder.

+1 Pushup, +1 Pullup, +1 Hanging Ab Raise for two days, then rest, the repeat. For one year.

So that means the first workout is 1-1-1. The 10th workout is 10-10-10. The 100th one will be 100-100-100. If you kept this up for a year, you’d be up to I believe 240 repetitions.

I’ve done 100 pullups in a day before, I’ve done 250 pushups. It wrecked me. Can I build up to 200+? What effect will that have on my body? ( likely none ).

For me this is more about forcing myself into maintaining fitness/ muscle mass outside of just cycling. You might be wondering: How are you going to do pullups if you’re on the road all summer? GOOD QUESTION.
…. ANYWAY….

3- Promote this Blog

My old website reached maybe 500-1000 people a month. Peaked at 20k at some point. Can I beat that going forward? What would happen if I did any sort of effort to have a social media presence with this? Is it worth it? Does anyone care? How do you even promote a blog at this point? Is there an internet outside of Youtube in 2022?

I pledge to learn this and to promote each new blog entry in a new place. Let’s see what happens! You might be reading this from me posting on Facebook. Yes I used to post stuff I did on that cancerous e-lump!

4- Finish the “Discover 50 new Songs” from last year

I had made it to 28! Send me suggestions but not actual full entire albums or just artists. Don’t tell me to “Listen to Elvis”.

That tells me that you just went on some binge and brainwashed yourself into loving that music. That’s how music works. The more you listen to it, the more you like it. If you like something because the CD was stuck in your car for a year, that doesn’t mean it was good music. That’s why it’s hard to discover actual good new songs. If I don’t instantly want to listen to it again, it’s not good enough.

5- No Single Player Video Games

Already on track on Jan 17! I have wasted a LOT of time in the last 10 years on video games. Last year after my long bike trip to Colorado, I deleted a lot of my days just playing Stardew Valley.
It really wrecked me. There’s no limit to how much I can play and it starts to mess with your sleep and gives your brain excuses to skip working out. The only one benefit of game binges is you forget to eat.

I will still play video games with people in person, if that arises. Games like Overcooked 2!

Online if it’s with people I know from "real life”. But no games by myself.

Will I just find ways to waste the same amount of time on youtube or reddit or will I bore myself so hard that I become productive in some other way? WE WILL FIND OUT!

6- Mystery Project

Not going to tell anyone what this is but I’ve always been curious AND SO HAVE YOU.
End of hints.
