Touring Canada - USA Bonus and Getting Back Home.

Dipped into the states a little bit to see a friend, despite losing my computer, which sucked. So ends the trip! Over 4 months and hundreds of extra large Tim Hortons coffees.

Just riding alone on day 1 and with a new friend on day 2. We couldn’t meet up on my first pass. due to him having covid.

First ride in the USA. Didn’t do this one last year. Just one of the myriad highway passes in the region. The views are still pretty nice on this one but the road is littered with trash and you probably shouldn’t go bike there.

Planned a nice 240km loop around Mount Rainier but was turned around almost halfway because they were repairing some bridge. Would have been a 50km+ detour to actually do a loop. No way was that happening as sundown was already sooner and the temperature much colder at nights. Not stranding myself with no self service at night 100km away from my car or some BS.
Just doubled back and did a little extra climbing. Ended up being a pretty epic ride anyway.

Took a day off cycling but still did a nice little hike near Shelton, where I was staying with a friend! Hikes always go to prettier places then paved roads. Maybe a new hobby to explore? My calves were sore for a week after this though, as my weak cyclist body is not adapted to any sort of leg impact…

Was going to do a ride twice as long but I took a wrong turn and just ended up looping back immediately. ANYWAY.

Just did a fast solo ride without taking pictures. The highlight of the day was supposed to be the Washington State Fair. Ended up driving 2.5 hours to get pretty much ripped off. To be fair we went on a weekend. We deserve it.

Just did a quick victory ride around the bay. Official end of a long journey. Time to decompress and train myself to stop eating 5000 calories a day.

That’s it! 18 weeks, over 10 000km of riding and 30 000km of driving. Thousands spent on gas, hundreds spent at Tim Hortons.
Writing this after being “home” ( don’t really have a home ) for a few days. Decompressing and thinking about what’s next ( paying corporate taxes…).

It’s strange how fast we adapt to new routines and how fast we get back to old habits. Working on a nice final update and highlight reel so I can share this voyage more easily! Thanks to anyone who read some of this blog, it was a lot of hard work to keep it going, but pretty fun in its own way and I have something cool to look back on.
